Register here Understanding the Human Side of Performance: Lessons from Elite Sport and Mental Health Tuesday 18th August, 12:00-11:00 Elite sport measures almost everything, physical performance, recovery, workload, nutrition and readiness, yet the human factors driving performance often remain the hardest to understand. In this session, former Commonwealth Games athlete, professional basketball player, psychology graduate and Why Not I founder Kofi Josephs will share his personal journey through professional sport, including the mental health challenges he experienced whilst competing at the highest level, and the lessons he has learned from working across sport, mental health and wellbeing. Drawing on both lived experience and professional practice, Kofi will explore the realities of pressure, identity, resilience, confidence, burnout and performance, while discussing why preventative approaches to mental health are becoming increasingly important across sport and wider society. The session will challenge traditional thinking around mental health support, highlight the importance of understanding the person behind the performer, and explore how organisations can create environments where people feel supported, understood and able to thrive. Attendees will leave with practical insights that can be applied across elite sport, community sport, workplaces, education and everyday life.
