This month, we're celebrating Michael Young, our fantastic Farnborough Tennis Session volunteer and events volunteer.

Michael was recently nominated as a 'Local Legend' by the Health Lottery in Hampshire, recognising his outstanding contribution to the local community. The nomination is a testament to the time, energy and enthusiasm he brings to supporting others through sport and improving mental health in his community.

Here's what Michael had to say about why he volunteers with Sport in Mind:

"I volunteer for Sport in Mind because it makes me feel good to be part of something that I believe genuinely helps people. I've met some wonderful people through the sessions and feel I've made some genuine friendships along the way. Whilst I volunteer to help others, I think I get a lot from the sessions myself too. Running a number of small businesses means I can easily just keep working, but Sport in Mind gives me a reason to stop, get out on court and spend time with some great people. Every session leaves me feeling better for having been there and I never regret going."

Michael's story is a wonderful reminder that volunteering isn't just about giving back – it's also about finding connection, improving your own wellbeing and becoming part of a supportive community. Volunteers like Michael play a vital role in helping us deliver life-changing sport and physical activity sessions to people experiencing mental health challenges.

Congratulations, Michael, on your well-deserved recognition, and thank you for everything you do for Sport in Mind.
