Hello to our fantastic Sport in Mind community!

Where does the time go?! We have been so busy these last few months, we can hardly believe we're in August already! We have so much to share with you- things we have been up to, and exciting things to come! As always, we want to take this opportunity to say thank you for supporting us, it means a great deal!

ADULT SESSIONS

The Adult sessions continue to go from strength to strength as we expand further across the region. We now have an additional 16 sessions running across Buckinghamshire, with new sessions in Amersham, Buckingham, Chesham, Iver and Marlow! We also have another 11 sessions set up across Oxfordshire, recently expanding into Cherwell District. You can find all of the timetables for these sessions here

We are also delighted to share that we recently received a £25,000 grant by Arts Council England for the provision of weekly dance and movement sessions to improve the mental health of mums and young people across Reading, Bracknell and Slough. You can read more about the project here

 OUR EXPANDING YOUTH PROGRAMME

We have been absolutely delighted with the uptake in our Summer Activity Programme this year! Sport in Mind's Summer of Sport 2022 is reaching more and more children and young people across more areas, which is just fantastic to see! This summer the youth team will be educating hundreds of young people on the benefits of being active for their mental health through workshops and community events, plus delivering sessions in tennis, yoga and multi sports across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Surrey. There re also loads of activities and resources to keep children active and happy over the summer holidays! Click here to join in!

FUNDRAISING!

In May we held the inaugural Sport in Mind corporate Golf Day, and what a day it was! We had an absolutely brilliant time at the beautiful Sunningdale Heath Golf Club, thank you to all the teams that came to join! The day was such a success that we have already booked the date again for 2023! If you'd like to join us an enter a team, please email [email protected] for all the details!

We are always completely inspired by the incredible ways you choose to fundraise for us and are completely in awe of the efforts you go to! None more so these last few months than the team at Summit Mentality who completed the Snowdon 24 challenge in aid of Sport in Mind- climbing up and down Snowdon as many times as possible in 24 hours-incredible!

We cant talk about fundraisers this summer without mentioning our little hero Dexter, the incredible 9 year old that took on 10 sporting challenges before his 10th birthday in 'Dexter's Decathlon' Dexter oozed every once of Sport in Minds ethos and messaging for our community with his motto of 'believe in yourself' and 'you can do it!'. We were delighted that some incredibly cool and talented sports people were able to help Dexter in his challenge! A particular highlight for the whole team was Diving at the Olympic Aquatic Centre with Leon Taylor- what an experience! We wat to say a huge thank you to Dexter, his family along with GB Hockey stars Amy Tennant and Sarah Jones, The Mental Miles team, GB Canoeing champion Amber Owen, Neil Hawkins SUP, Padel at Englefield Estate, Mayor Rachel Eden, England Rugby star Topsy Ojo, Olympic Diving champion Leon Taylor, and Table Tennis national superstar Anaya Patel for taking part and showing children and young people all over the country the positive power of sport on our mental health.

IN THE COMMUNITY

We have been very luck these last few months to attend and be a part of some fantastic events within the community-from hosting the children's area at the Traditional Boat festival in Henley, to taking part in the farmers market in Newbury, selling our delicious produce grown by our wonderful participants and volunteers at our allotment sites, as well as attending health and wellbeing fayres within the areas we operate to share what we do and how to get involved.

We have met and engaged with over a thousand children, young people and families through all our vents, getting them active and sharing more information about Sport in Mind. Can you guess what the favourite activity is for everyone?...cricket, badminton, archery?....ARCHERY is the winner! Every person who visits us love the opportunity to get involved!

We hope you've enjoyed hearing what we've been up to- we'd love you to get involved. As always, we simply couldn't do what we do without your fantastic support. If you'd like to get in touch with us, please drop us an email at [email protected], we'd love to hear from you!
