When it comes to volunteering at a Sport in Mind session, the softer skills are what really matter.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for individuals who are kind, friendly, approachable, and able to engage our attendees in the activity in a way in which they gain the maximum benefit.

As a Sport in Mind volunteer, your role is absolutely crucial in helping our session leaders to provide a fun, safe and welcoming environment for our participants. Our session-based volunteers are integral to the ongoing success of our sessions and without your kindness and willingness to give some of your time to our little charity - we would never be able to achieve the things we do!

You don't need to have ever picked up a racket or kicked a ball to volunteer at one of our sessions. A basic understanding of the rules of whichever sport/activity you choose is desirable but not essential.

What will be my responsibilities be?

The role can vary slightly depending on which sport/activity you are volunteering at, but the general responsibilities of a Sport in Mind volunteer remain the same:

  • Welcoming attendees to the session in a friendly and warm manner
  • Helping any new attendees get settled into the session
  • Facilitating games by either playing yourself, or scoring the game
  • Engaging with our attendees in a calm, friendly and non-judgemental manner
  • Making sure any equipment is easily accessed and in good condition for our attendees
  • General tidying
  • Helping to spot any potential hazards and taking measures to prevent them e.g. cleaning up spilt drinks to prevent slips

If this sounds like the perfect volunteer opportunity for you, please consider completing our Volunteer Application Form or contacting our volunteer coordinator Calum - [email protected] - if you have any further questions!
