2 friends. 5 days. 150 miles. 1 goal.

Nathan Bingham and Jack Wright from Reading will aim to complete a 150 mile trek in just 5 days to shine a light on Sport in Mind and the importance of walking on mental health.

To celebrate National Walking Month, the duo will hike the south-west coast before arriving in their hometown of Reading (finishing at Forbury Gardens). Across the five days, the pair will walk through the Jurassic Coast, Swanage, Bournemouth, Southampton, Winchester and Basingstoke.

Taking place from April 24th-April 28th, the pair are aiming to inspire others to plan their own walking activity with friends or family-encouraging supporters to pledge their time over their money- and curate an environment to have meaningful conversation. To mirror their distance, their target is 150 walking 'pledges'- one for each mile they are covering on their walk.

Nathan and Jack commented: "It can be easy to get caught in the rush of life where the opportunities to open up and have a proper chat are rare. As life-long friends, we've both suffered  low points in our lives, and being open with each other has been a lifeline in those moments. Walking offers an ideal space for these conversations and can go a long way in making a day, week or month better"

The epic walk will be supported by Hall and Woodhouse who will be providing meals and accommodation for the duo along the way.

With National Walking Month coming up in May, we'd love to see others pledge their own walk on the map. It could be a short route around the block or a day adventure in the beautiful countryside, but grab a mate and head out regardless!

At Sport in Mind, we are on a mission to transform the mental health of the nation through sport, and so we would love nothing more if you could pledge your walk, get outside, and move for your mental wellbeing alongside Jack and Nathan!

To get involved and #WalkSportinMind all you have to do it:

  • Do your own walk: Add your walking activity to the pledge website. Drop a pin on the map and lets fill it up to inspire others!
  • Share on Social: Post your activity on social media and encourage others- make sure to tag @sportinmind and use #WalkSportinMind
  • Join Jack and Nathan en-route: Link up with the duo during the challenge, get in touch for more details and keep an eye out on our social media channels to see where they are!
