To keep our mind and bodies active during what is a challenging period for many, we’re calling on YOU to get involved in our latest initiative:

#dontdroptheball on mental health

We’re asking you to record yourself completing 10 keep-ups (or however many you can) with any ball and sports equipment you have at your disposal (you don’t have to use your feet!) We’re aiming to complete 6,507 keep ups, a number that represents all the people lost to suicide in the country in 2018. Lets do this in their

Below is a step-by-step guide of how you can get involved from home (or you can download our guidance doc here to share with others):

STEP 1: Set up your phone camera in landscape orientation and start recording.
STEP 2: Throw a ball up in the air out of shot.
STEP 3: Complete 10 keep-ups (or however many you can) and then kick / hit the ball into the sky out of shot, as if you were passing it to the next person.
STEP 4: Send your clip via email to [email protected]
STEP 5: Post your video on social media @sportinmind with the hashtag #dontdroptheball and nominate three friends to complete the challenge

Dont Drop the Ball's Aim

The aim of this campaign is to promote the importance of positive mental health because it really is vital to look after our mental health, especially during these challenging times. So our message is simple – don’t drop the ball on your mental health – make sure you look after yourself because having good mental health helps us relax more, achieve more and enjoy our lives more.

One of the best things to promote good mental health is being active as it can help:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety levels
  • Reduce symptoms of depression
  • Raise your self-esteem
  • Lift your mood
  • Improve sleeping patterns
  • Enhance energy levels

There are lots of different ways you can get active such as going for a walk, doing yoga or playing football, but it is important to find something you enjoy doing because physical activity should always be fun and that's what Sport in Mind is build on. Our charity, in partnership with the brilliant NHS, deliver fun, social sport and physical activity groups that have helped improve thousands of people's mental health.
