Sport in Mind – Tai Chi Volunteer


Tai Chi is was originally developed as a martial art in 13th-century China and combines breathing and relaxation with flowing movements. It is now practiced around the world and has been shown to reduce stress and boost physical and mental health.

Our tai chi sessions are designed with an emphasis on mindfulness and relaxation to positively enhance mental health, as well as on physical wellbeing.

As a result, it is essential that any of our tai chi volunteers have an appreciation and understanding of tai chi and the boost it can have to both physical and mental wellbeing. Previous experience working in mental health is desirable.

As a volunteer at one of or tai chi sessions, your duties & responsibilities may include:

  • Welcoming participants to the session in a friendly and calm manner
  • Quietly assisting the session leader and offering advice to participants when required
  • Helping the session leader to provide a safe, supported and welcoming environment for our attendees
